The Sustainable Development Area (SDA) has made approximately 5,224 more acres eligible for high-density development than what was included in the Transit Priority Area (TPA). This includes high-risk fire and environmentally sensitive areas.

For residential neighborhoods, 4,612 more developable acres are now eligible for the Bonus ADU program and other high-density policies such as Complete Communities than what the Transit Priority Area allowed.

The lawsuit challenges the City's failure to provide the proper environmental analysis of its Sustainable Development Area which allows dense development up to a mile or more away from existing or planned transit that may never be built.

While a win would not necessarily mean the complete elimination of the SDA, it would force the City to shrink the SDA, providing a first step to promoting realistic, data-driven transit-oriented planning for San Diego.
